Vocal Auditions (Connecticut Children's Chorus):
Students should prepare a song of their choice, America (My Country 'Tis of Thee) and will be asked to sight-sing if in grades 5 and up. Younger students of grades 1-5 should prepare a song of their choice, America, and also prepare a round. Examples of songs that are rounds are Row, Row Row Your Boat, Frere Jacques, Are you Sleeping?, Where is Thumbkin?, Make New Friends and Keep the Old, Come Follow Follow Follow, Dona Nobis Pachem, and many more.
Instrumental Auditions:
Students are asked to perform a solo of their choice, be prepared to play scales and sight-reading. In general, students should consult their teacher to choose an appropriate song. We will also post suggested repertoire below, updated regularly, giving students helpful guidelines to choose a solo that is consistent with the level of achievement typically accepted into one of our ensembles. Students with questions are welcome to contact our staff for further assistance regarding audition guidelines and expectations. Not all of our students study privately with a teacher and private study is not required for ensemble members. Private study is recommended because it provides the best individual direction when playing an instrument.
For most of our instrumental ensembles we also require a seating audition typically done during the first rehearsal for each ensemble in September. Our staff will email you the excerpt for your respective ensemble. Just contact our office staff for more details.
