Students who wish to audition for one of our ensembles should first request an audition time for their instrument by contacting our office.  Auditions are offered by instrument and placement is done accordingly.

What to do:

  • Schedule an audition with our office; make sure you have given us an accurate email address and that spelling is double-checked.  All results are emailed only.  Notification is emailed no later than the following day (after the audition).
  • Add 'audition@hartford.edu' to your email address book to reduce the possibility of your audition results accidentally going to your SPAM folder.
  • Make sure you know your audition requirements for your instrument or voice.
  • We recommend that all students memorize their solo piece, although memorization is not required.  In most cases, those who prepare their piece well enough to memorize it are the highest placing students.
  • No accompaniment is required.
  • Make sure you have extra equipment for your instrument as needed (reeds, valve oil, etc.)
  • Arrive at least 30 minutes early to check-in for the day, pick up your audition form and room assignment and to warm-up prior to your audition.  If you need more than 15 minutes to warm-up, please arrive as early as you need to.  It will take approximately 15 minutes to get your audition form, confirm accuracy, and to make your way through the building.  Additional time can be utilized for warm-up.  Assigned audition times are the actual times you will spend with the judge(s) and are not an arrival time.
  • Come to your audition dressed comfortably but appropriately.  The most important detail is to play well.
  • Take part in open house activities as you like.  Family members and friends are also welcome to attend the open house.
  • Check your email for audition results on the evening of your audition.  If you don't receive an email by the following day, contact our office for the results.

Students who do not wish to participate in their assigned ensemble can simply notify our office prior to the first rehearsal, or attend one rehearsal and notify us immediately following.  Attendance after the second rehearsal will incur tuition charges and refunds are subject to the school withdrawal policies outlined in our registration page.
