Testimony about David Einfeldt and the power of music teaching…

I am sure that you do not remember me, but I played in the Corning  Youth Orchestra some 30 years ago under David's [Einfeldt] direction.  As a flutist, I had little contact with you, but I had extensive contact with David.

Saturday night I heard Mary Persin [violist from The Bava Quartet] perform with the Erie Philharmonic  (wonderful concert).  In the program notes it mentioned that Mary was associated with the David Einfeldt [Chamber Music] Institute.  I was sure that it was more than mere coincidence that a violist was part of an institute named for another violist.

A Google search found the Institute and a notice of David's death.  I am so sorry to learn of this. He was a wonderful and inspiring mentor.  I was a better musician because he made me want to be better.  Some of my fondest music making memories come from my years under his direction.  I first heard the Pachabel Canon as a member of the summer orchestra.  He introduced me to Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Super Star.  He  picked up the pieces when I blew the solo in a Bizet piece.  In a very real way, he helped me make it through the high schools years by providing a beautiful, safe haven for an awkward teen with a modicum  of musical talent.

I am so pleased that he has been honored in such an appropriate way.  He inspired many of us and, even for those of us who did not pursue careers in music, a lifelong love and deep  appreciation of music.  It appears that he will continue to do so through the work of the Institute. My sincere best wishes for the success of the David Einfeldt [Chamber Music] Institute.
