Quotes from Students

  • The training and coaching that SVI provides was some of the most valuable time I ever spent in my pre-college training. Not only did I make incredible friends who I still keep in touch with, SVI helped me create great professional connections. I was able to be focused on my performing and objective without losing the joy and fun in performing.
Christopher Shin (NYU graduate '07)SVI 2008

  • The weeks I spent at Hartt's Summer Vocal Institute made a lasting impression on me, expanding and enriching the musical skills I'd
amassed by that point, and more importantly, putting these skills into practical use in performance. The lessons, coachings, master-classes, rehearsals and ensemble experiences of SVI are singular, I know of no other American program that offers programming of such a high level to
singers in this age group. The Summer Vocal Institute is where young voice students  go to become singers, and where young singers become performers.
Lydia Steier (Oberlin grad., currently Staff Stage Director at Staatsopera, Stuttgard, Germany)

  • The Summer vocal institute is the best college preparation program available for young singer and actors. The program enriched and perfected my developing voice, giving me a distinct edge on other college performers.  The rigorous training is essential to anyone pursuing a career in theater.  Through this program, we were privileged to meet and work with a faculty comprised of active musicians, coaches, Broadway performers and directors.  Not only did SVI offer me superior training, it introduced me to a network of professional performers, coaches, and colleagues who are still in touch several years later. Most importantly, SVI provided me with the training, focus, and fundamentals that I have used to build my career as an active New York City musician.
    Tom DeFrancesco (active broadway musician)
