High school aged musicians will enjoy intensive study on their instrument for half a day, with general performing arts exposure during the remainder of each day. Instrument-specific workshops include flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet & horn; additional classes offered in movement, improvisation, music theory, music history, chorus and optimizing the body for instrumental performance. Half-day options are available.
Thanks to the success of our past programs, we are expanding summer programs for high school instrumental music students. For those who are returning to Hartt this summer, don't worry; the programs of the past are still thriving and bringing you the excellence and enjoyment you've come to know:
- High School Clarinet Institute
- High School Horn Institute
- High School Trumpet Institute
Instrument-specific classes will take place for approximately half the day and are split into intermediate and advanced sections to better target activities, repertoire and technical exercises according to ability pending adequate enrollment. Areas of study may include warm-up routines, fundamentals, intonation, range and endurance, varieties of literature, ensemble and solo playing, mock auditions, balance and blend, instrument accessories and equipment, basic improvisation, vibrato, tone, proper sound production, and much, much more.
Lunch and general classes will involve all students across many instrument types. All students will participate in a one-hour class discussing music theory, music history and ear-training which will incorporate Kodaly sight-singing techniques. The remaining two class periods will allow students to choose between a number of options designed to be fun, summer-focused, provide new artistic experiences, broaden your understanding in the arts, awesome and memorable for all involved!
What will your kids remember after this summer is over? . . . .
